The event, organized by the European Commission, will explore effective pesticide solutions for sustainable and chemical-free agriculture.
Brussels, January 28, 2025 – On February 11th and 12th, 2025, the Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety (DG SANTE) and the Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development (DG AGRI) will host the Research and Innovation (R&I) Webinar on Pesticides and Integrated Pest Management (IPM). This two-day online event aims to promote collaboration between researchers and public administrators, fostering innovation in crop protection and the transition to more sustainable agricultural practices across Europe.
The webinar will feature leading European projects funded by programs such as LIFE and Horizon Europe. During Session 1: National and EU-funded R&I projects (breakout groups), to be held on Tuesday, February 11, from 10:15 to 11:30 CET, Carlos Ramos, representing the European project LIFE NextFUMIGREEN, will present the latest innovations in the development of sustainable natural fumigants.
Ramos will participate in Breakout Group 3, alongside other prominent projects such as:
- NOVATERRA (tbc)
- BIOVEXO (tbc) – RTDS Group
- CSinDouro – Cistina Carlos (UTAD / ADVID)
- BIOBIVE – Carlos Barreiro (Unileón)
About LIFE NextFUMIGREEN
LIFE NextFUMIGREEN is a European project funded by the LIFE Programme, focused on developing natural fumigants based on dry micro-dispersion technology. This innovative solution enables efficient pest control in greenhouse horticultural crops while reducing the use of toxic chemicals.
The project’s key benefits include:
- Environmental sustainability: Enhancing biodiversity and reducing chemical residues.
- Food safety: Treatments that ensure contaminant-free food.
- Total efficiency: Technology capable of reaching even the most inaccessible areas, such as ceilings, cracks, and corners.
With a total budget of €2,758,921.01, co-financed by the European Union at 60%, LIFE NextFUMIGREEN leads the transition toward chemical-free agriculture, aligning with the goals of the European Green Deal and the Farm to Fork Strategy.
About the Webinar
The Research and Innovation (R&I) Webinar on Pesticides and Integrated Pest Management (IPM) will address various topics related to crop protection, including innovations in pesticides and application techniques; risk mitigation and integrated pest management; and funding opportunities for European projects.
This event is free and open to professionals, researchers, and anyone interested in agricultural sustainability.
