Brussels, 9 May 2025 – Today, Friday 9 May, is Europe Day, commemorating the historic Schuman Declaration of 1950 and symbolising peace, unity, and solidarity among European peoples. The LIFE NextFUMIGREEN project joins the celebration by highlighting the importance of European cooperation in promoting environmentally friendly and sustainable agricultural practices.
In this context, LIFE NextFUMIGREEN is a clear example of the added value the European Union brings to the transition towards a greener and safer agricultural model. Through its approach based on biotechnology and natural solutions, the project actively contributes to the objectives of the European Green Deal and the “Farm to Fork” strategy, which aim to reduce the use of hazardous plant protection products and foster agriculture that respects biodiversity and human health. In addition, LIFE NextFUMIGREEN promotes transnational cooperation between public and private entities, reinforcing Europe’s role as a leader in sustainable innovation applied to the agri-food sector.
LIFE NextFUMIGREEN, funded by the European Union’s LIFE programme, works on the development of natural fumigants based on plant extracts to combat pests such as whiteflies and botrytis fungus in greenhouse horticultural crops. The project is coordinated by FumiHogar and includes the participation of B&B Asesores, Comercial Química Massó, BrioAgro Tech, Tecnova, and the Finnova Foundation.
With a total budget of €2,758,921.01, 60% co-funded by the European Union’s LIFE programme, LIFE NextFUMIGREEN promotes more sustainable, healthier, and biodiversity-friendly agriculture, in line with the objectives of the European Green Deal.
On this Europe Day, LIFE NextFUMIGREEN reaffirms its commitment to the fundamental values of the European Union, working to build a greener, fairer, and more inclusive future for all European citizens.
