LIFE NextFUMIGREEN participates in the I European Financing Conference for Agri-Food Digitalization and Innovation at EXPO AGRITECH 2024

  • Carlos Ramos, from Fumi-Hogar, highlights the impact of the LIFE project on the transition to natural and digital fumigants.
  • The conference brought together experts to address innovative and sustainable solutions for the agri-food sector.

Last Thursday, November 28, Carlos Ramos, representative of LIFE NextFUMIGREEN, was present at the I Conference on European Financing for Agri-Food Digitalization and Innovation during the AGRITECH 2024 EXPO. A key event to promote sustainability and digitalisation in the agricultural sector, organised in collaboration with the Finnova Foundation and the European Interreg HIBA+ project at the Malaga Trade Fair and Congress Centre (FYCMA).

Carlos Ramos, head of operations at Fumi-Hogar, lead partner of the project, highlighted how digitalization can transform the use of natural fumigants in horticultural crops under greenhouses. During his speech, he thanked Finnova for the opportunity provided at the European level: “The success of a European project like LIFE NextFUMIGREEN lies in a solid consortium. Although we did not know the agricultural line, with partners such as Tecnova, Massó and Finnova we have managed to develop innovative natural fumigants, optimizing their efficiency in crops under plastic.”

In addition, he underlined the role of digitalization in the project:

“Our technology allows us to apply a natural fumigant in greenhouses and monitor its impact in real time using sensors. In the future, we hope to add artificial intelligence to optimize its use and sustainability.”

The event, moderated by Juanma Revuelta, CEO of Finnova, also connected projects such as HIBA+ and LIFE NextFUMIGREEN, highlighting the importance of European calls to support innovation in the sector. Revuelta encouraged attendees to take advantage of programmes such as Horizon Europe and Digital Europe, which offer key funding for digitalisation and innovation.

With a budget of €2,758,921.01, LIFE NextFUMIGREEN is 60% funded by the EU’s LIFE programme and seeks to transform agriculture through less toxic and more efficient fumigants.
