LIFE NextFUMIGREEN promotes the reduction of hazardous substances and fosters agricultural sustainability

The European project aims to transform greenhouse agriculture with innovative solutions that reduce environmental impact and enhance food security.

The European project LIFE NextFUMIGREEN, funded 60% by the European Union’s LIFE program, is revolutionizing greenhouse agriculture by developing natural fumigants to combat pests and diseases in horticultural crops. This initiative not only enhances agricultural efficiency but also addresses critical environmental challenges with an innovative and sustainable approach.

The project focuses on preventing the use of hazardous substances by promoting safer alternatives for human health and ecosystems. It also aims to minimize soil contamination, preserving its fertility and quality in the long term, and reduce groundwater pollution by avoiding the infiltration of harmful chemical compounds. Furthermore, it seeks to decrease hazardous waste, such as containers contaminated with plant protection products, and lower CO₂ emissions, contributing to the fight against climate change and improving the agricultural sector’s carbon footprint.

With a budget of €2,758,921.01 and a duration of four and a half years, the project is led by Fumi-Hogar in collaboration with strategic partners such as Finnova, BrioAgro, Comercial Química Massó, and B&B Asesores. Together, they are working to position agriculture as a pillar of environmental sustainability in Europe.

This initiative represents a significant step forward in the professionalization of the agricultural sector, environmental protection, and food security, laying the foundation for a more sustainable agricultural model in Europe.
