LIFE NextFUMIGREEN showcases its advancements in natural biopesticides at the European event Research and Innovation on Pesticides

  • The project, led by FumiHogar and co-funded by the EU LIFE programme, promotes dry micro-dispersion technology for more effective and sustainable pest control in greenhouses.

Brussels, 12 February 2025 – Yesterday, the European project LIFE NextFUMIGREEN, led by FumiHogar, took center stage at the Research and Innovation on Pesticides 2025 event, organized by the Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety (DG SANTE) and the Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development (DG AGRI) of the European Commission.

During the conference, Carlos Ramos, representative of FumiHogar, presented the project’s innovations in biopesticide application through dry micro-dispersion technology, a key breakthrough for sustainable pest control in greenhouses.

In his presentation, Carlos Ramos explained how LIFE NextFUMIGREEN is developing natural fumigants derived from plant extracts to control pests such as whitefly and diseases like botrytis in greenhouse-grown horticultural crops. The application of these biopesticides through dry micro-dispersion ensures a homogeneous distribution withinthe treated environment without increasing humidity, guaranteeing greater efficacy and safety for farmers.

“The main challenge with biopesticides is their rapid degradability and minimal residue. From an environmental and food safety perspective, this is a great advantage, but in terms of product efficacy, it presents a limitation. In the LIFE NextFUMIGREEN project, we aim to combine these natural active ingredients with our smoke technology to develop a new tool to combat the most significant greenhouse pests

” highlighted Carlos Ramos during his presentation.

LIFE NextFUMIGREEN is 60% co-funded by the EU LIFE programme, with a total budget of €2,758,921.01. The initiative is developed in collaboration with B&B Asesores, Comercial Química Massó, BrioAgro Tech, and Fundación Finnova, key players in agricultural innovation and European funding management.

The Research and Innovation on Pesticides 2025 event, organized by DG SANTE and DG AGRI, brought together experts, researchers, and project leaders seeking sustainable and effective crop protection solutions. LIFE NextFUMIGREEN’s participation reinforces the EU’s commitment to sustainable agriculture and reducing chemical pesticide use, aligning with the European Green Deal objectives.
