- Technicians and farmers discussed biopesticides, dry microdispersion, and the opportunities of smoke technology in the European agricultural sector.
Almeria, December 18, 2024 | Monday, December 16, 2024, was a key day for the LIFE NextFUMIGREEN project in Almería, featuring activities focused on agricultural innovation and sustainability. The day included a private technical visit and an interactive workshop that brought together technicians and farmers to delve into the project’s progress and foster collaboration among all involved stakeholders.
Piedad Rivas, a technician from CINEA (European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency), traveled to the TECNOVA Technology Center to witness the EOR (Enhanced Oil Recovery) disinfection trials with innovative fumigants developed within the project. This visit reinforced the European Commission and CINEA’s interest in monitoring the progress of this project, co-financed by the European Union’s LIFE program, which promotes sustainable solutions in agriculture.
Subsequently, a workshop was held to present and discuss the progress of the LIFE NextFUMIGREEN project. The session covered key topics related to the technological and sustainable solutions proposed by the project. Key innovations such as dry microdispersion and biopesticides were detailed, along with the disinfection trials conducted as part of the project.
The workshop also provided an open and constructive dialogue space for farmers and technicians, who shared their opinions on the advantages and challenges of implementing these technologies in agriculture. Finally, participants enjoyed a networking space at the Almería facilities, where they exchanged ideas, established contacts, and explored potential future collaborations related to the project.
Carlos Ramos, Operations Manager at FUMI-HOGAR, highlighted the success of the event, which brought together over fifteen technicians and farmers from the region.
The LIFE NextFUMIGREEN project is steadily progressing towards its goal of transforming European agriculture, offering innovative and sustainable solutions that contribute to reducing the environmental footprint and improving agricultural practices. The organization expresses gratitude for the active participation of all attendees and the ongoing collaboration to build a greener and more sustainable future.
About LIFE NextFUMIGREEN
LIFE NextFUMIGREEN is an initiative that develops natural fumigants derived from plant extracts to control whiteflies and botrytis in greenhouse crops. With a budget of €2,758,921.01, 60% funded by the European Union’s LIFE program, the project spans four and a half years. Its main objective is to evaluate the effectiveness of a biopesticide that is less harmful than conventional ones, contributing to improved food safety, biodiversity, and the professional training of farmers in the use of biopesticides.
