The European project promotes sustainable solutions to protect crops and soil health
LIFE NextFUMIGREEN strengthens cooperation between Europe and Latin America in sustainable agriculture
Finnova and FUMIHOGAR highlight innovation in biofumigation and circular bioeconomy
Tuesday, 12 May 2026, Brussels.
On the occasion of the International Day of Plant Health, the European project LIFE NextFUMIGREEN highlights its contribution to crop protection, agricultural sustainability, and the reduction of chemical inputs through innovative biofumigation solutions. Led by FUMIHOGAR in collaboration with the Finnova Foundation, the project also reinforces its international dimension following its participation in the workshop held in Ibagué (Colombia), where European and Latin American experts exchanged experiences on sustainable agriculture, circular bioeconomy, and access to international funding. Carlos Ramos, Operations Manager at FUMIHOGAR, and Juanma Revuelta, CEO of Finnova, highlighted the role of European innovation in advancing more resilient, efficient, and environmentally friendly agricultural systems.
International Day of Plant Health
The International Day of Plant Health, promoted by the United Nations every 12 May, aims to raise awareness about the importance of protecting plant health to combat hunger, reduce poverty, preserve biodiversity, and strengthen sustainable economic development. In this context, LIFE NextFUMIGREEN positions itself as an initiative aligned with international goals and the priorities of the European Green Deal.
The project develops technologies based on natural fumigants and sustainable biofumigation systems that reduce dependence on conventional chemical inputs, improve soil health, and enhance food security. These innovative solutions contribute to protecting agricultural ecosystems and promoting more sustainable production models.
LIFE NextFUMIGREEN participation in Ibagué
The participation of LIFE NextFUMIGREEN in the International Workshop “Forum for the exchange of European and Latin American experiences and best practices in sustainability for the agricultural sector”, held in Ibagué within the framework of the Glocal Circular Economy Summit, reinforced the project’s commitment to EU–Latin America cooperation.
During the event, organized by the Finnova Foundation, participants discussed opportunities for technology transfer, agricultural innovation, and access to international funding to promote sustainable solutions in territories where agriculture is a key economic and social pillar.
Carlos Ramos, Operations Manager at FUMIHOGAR, presented dry micro-dispersion technologies applied in LIFE NextFUMIGREEN, highlighting their capacity to improve the efficiency and sustainability of agricultural bioproducts. Meanwhile, Juanma Revuelta, CEO of Finnova, emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation between Europe and Latin America to accelerate the transition toward circular bioeconomy models.
Innovation and circular bioeconomy
LIFE NextFUMIGREEN represents an example of how European innovation can be adapted to different territories and respond to global challenges related to agricultural sustainability and plant health.
The experience shared in Ibagué demonstrated the potential of international collaboration to promote new business opportunities, strengthen strategic alliances, and encourage replicable solutions in different agricultural contexts. In addition, complementary initiatives such as ECOFFEE showed how the valorisation of agricultural waste can generate natural biocides and sustainable solutions for the agri-food sector.
The LIFE NextFUMIGREEN project is part of a consortium composed of FUMIHOGAR, Fundación Tecnova, Fundación Finnova, B&B Asesores, Comercial Química Massó, and BrioAgro Tech, working together to promote sustainable and scalable solutions aligned with European objectives in agriculture, environment, and plant health.
