The European project showcased the success of its natural fumigants to leading researchers and horticulture professionals in Santa Susanna
SANTA SUSANNA, March 31, 2026. The consortium of the European project LIFE NextFUMIGREEN has participated with great success in the II HUB Sanitat Vegetal Horta Conference, held this past March 10 in the town of Santa Susanna, Catalonia. This benchmark event brought together the main actors of the agricultural sector to discuss current phytosanitary challenges and the future of crop protection.
During the conference, Carlos Ramos, operations manager at FumiHogar, presented the technical advances of the revolutionary technology of the project. This involves the development of smoke canisters based on natural plant extracts, a biotechnological innovation that allows pest control in greenhouses, completely eliminating chemical residues and protecting both the health of workers and the environment.
The event served as an unbeatable showcase to demonstrate the effectiveness of these alternatives to a highly specialized audience. The conference brought together researchers and specialists from leading entities such as the Institut de Recerca i Tecnologia Agroalimentàries (IRTA), the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), the Centre de Recerca en Agrigenòmica (CRAG), the CSIC and the Tecnova Technological Centre, a project partner. Among the topics discussed were integrated pest management (IPM), soil health and organic matter, the diagnosis of virosis and nematodes, as well as the emerging role of biosolutions in plant health.
For the LIFE NextFUMIGREEN consortium, participating in strategic forums like the HUB Sanitat Vegetal is a key step to validate and bring its technology closer to farmers and field technicians. European agriculture faces the enormous challenge of meeting the strict objectives of the European Green Deal, and the mission of the project is to provide effective, profitable and one hundred percent sustainable tools so that the sector can lead this ecological transition with total guarantees.
Those who could not attend the event can now relive the entire day. The organization has made the full recording of the event available to the public, which can be viewed at the following link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tMjY00EzTfo
