LIFE NextFUMIGREEN strengthens agricultural sustainability education with two workshops for students in Almería

Students from IES Sol de Portocarrero – La Laboral and EFA Campomar take part in training sessions on innovation and natural fumigants

Friday, 21 November 2025. Almería. The European project LIFE NextFUMIGREEN has held two educational workshops at the Tecnova Technology Centre aimed at bringing agricultural innovation closer to vocational students specialising in the agricultural field. The activities, organised on Friday 14 and Wednesday 19 November, reinforce the project’s commitment to applied science outreach and to encouraging career paths linked to sustainability.

On Friday 14 November, the project welcomed students from IES Sol de Portocarrero – La Laboral, specifically those enrolled in the 1st and 2nd year of the Higher Vocational Training Programme in Landscaping and Rural Environment. During the session, Carlos Ramos, Operations Manager at FumiHogar, presented the project’s objectives and explained how natural fumigant solutions are being developed. This was followed by a presentation from Blanca Sabarit, Plant Pathology Technician at Fundación Tecnova, who described the field validation process demonstrating the potential of these products to control greenhouse pests through more sustainable methods.

On Wednesday 19 November, the project held a second workshop with students from EFA Campomar, also enrolled in the 1st and 2nd year of the Higher Vocational Training Programme in Landscaping and Rural Environment. Participants explored the scientific and technological foundations behind the development of natural fumigants and gained insight into their positive environmental impact and potential application in horticultural production. The session created a space for technical questions, reflection and practical learning, highlighting the value of connecting innovation with the educational environment.

These activities underline LIFE NextFUMIGREEN’s commitment to scientific outreach and to training future generations by offering students direct exposure to real research processes and greenhouse trials.

LIFE NextFUMIGREEN has a total budget of 2.758.921,01, co-funded at 60% by the European Union’s LIFE Programme. The project is coordinated by FumiHogar and carried out by a consortium formed by B&B Asesores, Comercial Química Massó, BrioAgro Tech, Fundación Tecnova and Finnova Foundation.
