- The European project presented its latest advances in natural fumigants for greenhouse pest management at Fundación Tecnova’s ACENTA stand in Málaga, highlighting the link between scientific innovation, sustainability, and peace
Brussels, 12 November 2025. During Expo Agritech 2025, held from 28 to 30 October at FYCMA (Málaga), the European project LIFE NextFUMIGREEN showcased its most recent developments in sustainable pest control at Fundación Tecnova’s ACENTA stand. The session, “LIFE NextFUMIGREEN: Development of natural fumigants for greenhouse pests,” reflected the project’s commitment to promoting environmentally responsible solutions that contribute to global sustainability and food security.
The presentation featured representatives from the project consortium, each providing unique insights into the innovation and research behind LIFE NextFUMIGREEN:
- Carlos Ramos, Operations Manager at Fumi-Hogar, explained how natural fumigants based on pyrethrins enable homogeneous, residue-free application without water, ensuring safer handling and reducing environmental impact.
- Blanca Sabarit, from Fundación Tecnova, shared results from field validation trials that confirmed the product’s effectiveness against key greenhouse pests such as whitefly and Tuta absoluta in tomato and pepper crops.
- Juanma Revuelta, CEO of the Finnova Foundation, highlighted the LIFE Programme, with a budget of over €5.4 billion for 2021–2027, as a cornerstone of EU environmental policy and a driver for replicating and scaling LIFE NextFUMIGREEN’s results in Europe and Latin America.
Coordinated by Fumi-Hogar, the project involves B&B Asesores, BrioAgro Tech, Comercial Química Massó, Fundación Tecnova, and the Finnova Foundation. With a total budget of €2,758,921.01, LIFE NextFUMIGREEN is 60% co-funded by the European Union’s LIFE Programme.
As part of the International Week of Science and Peace, celebrated every November, LIFE NextFUMIGREEN stands as a tangible example of how science and innovation can contribute to peaceful, sustainable progress, reducing environmental risks and supporting the transition to greener agriculture.
