Chilean delegation visits Tecnova’s Experimental Centre to learn about a European project developing natural biopesticides for greenhouse crops
Almería, 15 May 2025. As part of the EU-funded AL-INVEST Verde programme, representatives of the Federation of Fruit Producers of Chile (FEDEFRUTA) and the Finnova Foundation visited several agricultural innovation centres in Almería, Spain. A key highlight was the visit to the Tecnova Experimental Centre, where the delegation was introduced to the European project LIFE NextFUMIGREEN.
This initiative, co-funded 60% by the LIFE Programme of the European Union, has a total budget of €2,758,921.01 and focuses on the development of natural fumigants from plant extracts to control whitefly and botrytis outbreaks in greenhouse vegetable crops. Current trials are being conducted on greenhouse-grown peppers, one of the most prominent crops in southeastern Spain.
LIFE NextFUMIGREEN is led by FumiHogar, in collaboration with B&B Asesores, Comercial Química Massó, Tecnova Technology Centre , BrioAgro Tech, and the Finnova Foundation, and aligns with the European Green Deal, the “Farm to Fork” and Biodiversity strategies.
This technical mission highlights the strengthening cooperation between Europe and Latin America on sustainability and agricultural innovation. The delegation included Mario Alejandro Marín (FEDEFRUTA), Juan Pablo Morán (AL-INVEST Verde), and Yolanda Durán (Finnova Foundation), among others.
