LIFE NextFUMIGREEN Boosts Organic Farming in Europe with Natural Pest Control Alternatives

With a budget of €2,758,921.01 and backed by the EU’s LIFE program, the project promotes the professionalization of farmers in the use of biopesticides.

Led by FumiHogar, LIFE NextFUMIGREEN brings together the expertise of its partners across Europe to reduce the chemical footprint in crops and protect the natural environment.

In a context where agriculture faces the urgent need to reduce its environmental impact, LIFE NextFUMIGREEN represents a step forward towards an agricultural system that preserves biodiversity and supports the professionalization of the sector in the use of natural biopesticides. These products, developed with plant extracts, reduce chemical residues in food and enhance crop safety without compromising productivity.

The project thus aligns with the goals of the European Green Deal and the “Farm to Fork” Strategy, promoting a crop protection model that minimizes risks and fosters a sustainable agricultural ecosystem. In parallel, LIFE NextFUMIGREEN provides farmers and technicians with targeted training in natural fumigation techniques and pest management, contributing to the creation of a more resilient and sustainability-minded agricultural community.

Collaboration for a Green Future

The collaboration among the project partners brings together the technical expertise of companies like FumiHogar, Comercial Química Massó, and BrioAgro Tech with the support of Fundación Finnova, an entity dedicated to spreading sustainable practices across Europe. Together, they aim not only to develop and apply new techniques but also to establish a framework of best practices to inspire other industry players.

With LIFE NextFUMIGREEN, the EU reinforces its commitment to leading the shift toward an agriculture that balances productivity with environmental protection, promoting biopesticides as a key measure to preserve biodiversity and improve food safety at the community level.

About LIFE NextFUMIGREEN

LIFE NextFUMIGREEN is a European project aimed at developing natural fumigants from plant extracts to control populations of whiteflies and botrytis fungal outbreaks in greenhouse horticultural crops. Led by FumiHogar and funded at 60% by the EU’s LIFE program, the project will span four and a half years to test the effectiveness of a new, less toxic fumigant biopesticide compared to conventional methods. With a total budget of €2,758,921.01, this project seeks to enhance food safety and biodiversity while contributing to the professionalization of farmers in the use of biopesticides.
