February 28th: Fruit and vegetables with pesticides in the EU have tripled in ten years

A recent study by PAN Europe reveals that pesticide traces in EU fruit and vegetables have tripled over the last decade, raising health and environmental concerns. Main sources include the Netherlands, Belgium, and Spain, with imports from Costa Rica and India. LIFE NextFUMIGREEN advocates for natural fumigants, offering a sustainable alternative to harmful chemical pesticides. This project, supported by Finnova and other partners, emphasizes the importance of eco-friendly pest control to protect crops and biodiversity.

April 5th: LIFE NextFUMIGREEN arrives at the Young Trainees Meeting in Brussels

On April 4,  the LIFE NextFUMIGREEN project, in partnership with the Finnova Foundation, participated in the Youth in Training Meeting in Brussels.

The event showcased EU-cofinanced projects, emphasizing LIFE NextFUMIGREEN’s development of natural fumigants to replace chemical ones in greenhouses. This initiative aims to enhance biodiversity, food security, and climate change resilience. The project is supported by multiple organizations with a budget of €2,758,921.01, 60% funded by the LIFE Programme.

April 9th: LIFE NextFUMIGREEN, presented as a success story at the UNIR Master’s Degree in Digital Transformation and Innovation in the Agri-food Sector.

The LIFE NextFUMIGREEN project was presented by Juanma Revuelta, CEO of Finnova Foundation, at UNIR’s Master’s program on Digital Transformation in the agri-food sector. This EU-funded project develops natural fumigants for greenhouses, enhancing food safety and promoting biodiversity. With a budget of 2.75 million euros, LIFE NextFUMIGREEN exemplifies success in circular and sustainable economy within the food chain.

June 20th: “Almería is a leading province in the sustainable use of water and chemical products without any alert, something that differentiates us from other producers outside the EU”.

During the “LIFE NextFUMIGREEN: new toxic-free agriculture” webinar, experts highlighted the region’s commitment to quality, sustainable food production.

The event, part of European Green Week 2024, underscored Almería’s innovations in green alternatives to chemical fumigants and its alignment with the European Green Deal. The LIFE NextFUMIGREEN project promotes economic and environmental sustainability through natural pesticides, enhancing food security and biodiversity.

December 2nd: CINEA supervises LIFE NextFUMIGREEN trials in Almería

Piedad Rivas, a technician from CINEA (European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency), visited the TECNOVA Technology Centre to witness the Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) disinfection trials with innovative fumigants developed under LIFE NextFUMIGREEN. Her visit highlighted the European Commission’s and CINEA’s interest in monitoring the project’s progress. Co-financed by the LIFE Programme, this project is pioneering sustainable agricultural solutions.

LAST EVENTS 💹

June 20th: The webinar “LIFE NextFUMIGREEN: New Toxic-Free Agriculture” had explained the advantages of using green alternatives to chemical fumigants at the Centro Tecnológico Tecnova in Almería, Spain. 

November 28th: At Expo Agritech 2024 in Málaga, LIFE NextFUMIGREEN presented the latest results of its trials with natural fumigants. This event marked an important milestone in engaging with agricultural stakeholders to promote innovative solutions for pest control.

December 2nd: A workshop held at the TECNOVA Technology Centre in Almería showcased EOR disinfection trials with fumigants developed by LIFE NextFUMIGREEN. This session was attended by Piedad Rivas from CINEA, reinforcing the European Commission’s interest in the project’s progress.
