LIFE NextFUMIGREEN aligns with the priorities of the new Common Agricultural Policy proposed by the European Commission
Brussels, 6th August 2025. On 17 July, the European Commission presented its proposal for a simpler, more targeted and forward-looking Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) for the period 2028–2034. This new roadmap prioritises a sustainable, resilient and innovation-driven agricultural model, in clear alignment with the goals of the LIFE NextFUMIGREEN project.
The proposal highlights the need to reduce the environmental footprint of food production, preserve biodiversity and ensure safe, high-quality food for 450 million EU citizens. These objectives are closely linked to the work of LIFE NextFUMIGREEN, which is developing a natural plant-based fumigant to replace chemical pesticides in greenhouse-grown horticultural crops. The biopesticide provides an effective solution to pests such as whiteflies and fungal outbreaks like botrytis.
The future CAP also encourages closer coordination between agriculture, social cohesion and rural development. LIFE NextFUMIGREEN contributes to this vision by promoting sustainability in high-density agricultural areas, enabling safer practices, knowledge transfer and professionalisation of the sector.
Key elements of the proposed CAP include a €300 billion ringfenced budget for income support to farmers, simplified rules, fairer hectare-based payments, incentives for young farmers, and stronger links with other EU programmes for innovation and competitiveness.
With a total budget of €2,758,921.01, LIFE NextFUMIGREEN is co-funded by the LIFE Programme of the European Union. The project is coordinated by FumiHogar, with the participation of B&B Asesores, Tecnova, Comercial Química Massó, BrioAgro Tech and Fundación Finnova.
